Description
The Madonna wears a blue garment, while the Child’s robes are green and red. The faces of the subjects show very fine and careful shading, and even the rendering of the curls of the baby Jesus denotes a very high attention to detail. The son embraces his mother, and the faces are juxtaposed; this depiction, a classic example of Byzantine iconography of the Eleusinian type, creates a very sweet image. The background, a mirror gold color, gives additional emphasis to the subjects of the depiction.
This icon is a lithograph on wood and finished with mirror gold leaf, while the haloes, writings and borders are handmade. The hook on the back gives the possibility to be hung on the wall. The certificate on the back of the icon attests to its provenance from Greece.
